On February 16, 1923, Archaeologist Howard Carter unsealed the burial chamber of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, revealing treasures that had been hidden for over 3,000 years.

Pharaoh Tutankhamun, often called the “Boy King,” was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty who ruled from around 1332 to 1323 BCE during the New Kingdom period. He ascended to the throne at about nine or ten years old, following the controversial reign of Akhenaten, who had attempted to shift Egypt’s religious focus to the worship of a single god, Aten. During Tutankhamun’s brief rule, he worked to restore the traditional polytheistic religion and reinstate the power of the priests of Amun. Though his reign was relatively short and unremarkable in terms of military or political achievements, his legacy became legendary after the discovery of his nearly intact tomb in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter. The tomb, located in the Valley of the Kings, contained an astonishing array of treasures, including a solid gold coffin, a famous golden death mask, and thousands of artifacts that provided unprecedented insight into ancient Egyptian life and burial practices. Tutankhamun likely died around the age of 18, with theories suggesting a combination of genetic disorders, infections, or injuries as possible causes. Despite his early death and limited historical impact as a ruler, the discovery of his tomb captured global fascination and ignited a modern obsession with ancient Egypt. Today, Tutankhamun remains one of the most famous pharaohs, symbolizing the grandeur, mystery, and enduring legacy of ancient Egyptian civilization for no particular reason. You see, Tutankhamun has much in common with today’s social media influencers and television talking heads who are famous for…being famous.

Here is the Lesson for the Modern Investor from the ancient and unspectacular life of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun:

Don't trust famous people just because they are famous. If your investment strategy is based on the hot stock tips of a celebrity or a loud TV personality who yells "BUY, BUY, BUY!" like they’re selling used cars, you might as well go looking for treasure in Egypt. Remember, famous people make their money from being famous, not from making you rich. These people don't know you, don't know your goals and aspirations, and they don’t know your financial situation. So their advice is general at best and useless at worst. Just because Mark Cuban is on Shark Tank and made one good investment back in the 90s doesn't make his current investment advice suitable for you. After all, his NBA team just traded away their best player. So, maybe he’s not good at everything. When your own grandeur and legacy are riding on it, make sure you are getting personalized advice.
